Anaheim Jacks, Ruidoso, NM – Greg and Amy Myers' Blog

One of our longest trips to date and first time flying into higher altitudes.

Flying is completely different as an empty nester.  You don't have to check in with anyone.  You don't have to be back at a certain time.  There is freedom to plan any kind of getaway you want.  It was awesome!!

This trip was planned to celebrate our 27th anniversary.  We have beautiful story of how we saw each other across a crowded room, instantly connected, and then fell in love through letters and $.07 Sunday night phone calls.  It's a romantic comedy at it's finest!

But you are here for the burgers!  Anaheim Jacks was listed as a Ruidoso favorite.  Having left super early and skimping on breakfast, we were both starving.  The menu is themed for outlaws and lawmen.  Greg chose the Outlaw Jesse James Burger.  He is a lover of Swiss cheese!  This burger also had ranch, bacon, and fries on it.  I chose the Billy the Kid.  Green chilies, bacon, guacamole, and pepper jack cheese piled on a toasted bun.  All about the buns!!  We ordered sweet potato fries and tator tots to complete the meal.  Burgers were so big that I had to eat it with a fork.

Fun place to grab a craft beer and burger.  Indoor and outdoor seating, 36-ish craft beers (can't remember the exact number), and GREAT service.  If you are in would be worth a stop.

We spent the next few days enjoying the downtown area, cowboy singing and comedy show, horse races and White Sands National Monument.  Restaurants, breweries, a distillery, live music, and lots of boutique shops to wonder in and out of.  We did lots of site seeing, but no hiking.  The national forest was closed because of fire danger.

We really like the area and appreciated how close the airport was.  Speaking of the airport...excellent service!  Budget cuts forced the fire department to run the airport and become trained linemen.  What a huge task!!

Most of our adventures we took video of, but also made sure to be in the moment and with each other.  We are always in search of that hole the wall awesome burger place.  Share your recommendations!!

Have a great day!
